On Saturday 1st October we were the chosen wedding caterers for Kate and Geoff that married on a damp blustery day, but the weather certainly did not dampen anyone’s spirits.

The couple married at the beautiful Launcell’s Church just outside of Bude on the Devon/Cornwall border. After the ceremony the guests strolled to the reception venue, the new and exciting Launcells Barton, which has just opened this year for its first weddings. Being located directly behind the church, with a Mill Barn, a separate bar area, a courtyard, walled garden and a fantastic house with bridal accommodation, not to mention the Events Barn which is under construction as we speak this amazing venue is already proving popular and we love working there.

On arrival, the guests could use the bar or the Mill Barn where there was an array of local drinks being served…

…along with a selection of our homemade canapes which included chicken liver pate on crostini with our own chutney, smoked salmon blinis, olive bread crostini, with sun dried tomato and whipped goats cheese and finally mushroom, garlic and parmesan tartlets.

The guests sat down in a marquee that looked stunning, Kate and Geoff’s family and friends worked tirelessly, adding there own unique personal touches with breathtaking results. Along with some beautiful flowers from Bleujen of Bude this really was breath taking and the gold table cloths will be a stand out for many years to come.

Geoff owns the local garage so it was only right that all the guests received a spanner as a favour and have all the tables named after cars, the bridal table being named Porsche after Geoff’s second love.

To begin with the guests enjoyed a selection of artisan breads, with dips, olives and sun dried tomatoes. As the guests sat, one person on each table was presented with a bag which consisted on a chef’s hat and an apron, this caused quite a stir and as we served joints of roast beef to each table with a selection of roasted winter vegetables and a green vegetable medley along with homemade yorkshire puddings and jugs of rich gravy, the atmosphere became electric with lots of laughter. The chefs did an amazing job at carving the joints and serving their awaiting guests.

While the wedding breakfast was being served the children had their own little area where they could play…

For dessert and staying on the sharing format, we served homemade dessert platters that consisted of chocolate brownie, lemon possett, miniature raspberry pavlovas and finally vanilla cheesecake, all with clotted cream which is a must on the Devon/Cornwall border.

Before the speeches, we served freshly brewed coffee and tea along with homemade truffles and mints.

As the night drew in the marquee once again came into its own, with all the twinkling candles and fairly lights, which shone and bounced off the gold table cloths.

Guests arrived to see Kate and Geoff cut their wedding cake, that was made by Hannah’s Cornish Cakes. This was a naked cake with a caramel drizzle which as usual tasted divine.

In the evening we served fresh cod that was battered and cooked in the tent, we served this with hand cut chips and warm pasties, along with the wedding cake.
