On Saturday 6th August we were the chosen wedding caterers for the new Mr and Mrs Robinson in beautiful Cornwall.

With an elevated position near Poughill in Bude, the clear marquee overlooked the rugged Cornish coastline and Laura and Andy’s venue for their wedding day was truly breathtaking. With tipis positioned nearby for the children to explore…

The marquee was beautifully decorated with coloured lanterns filled with LED lights…

…seasonal flowers to accentuate the countryside by Bleujen, which looked beautiful as always, and came complete with children’s games to keep the youngsters entertained and even a crossword quiz to see how well guests knew the bride and groom! With a bar made from pallets by Laura’s multi-talented Dad…

The guests arrived at the marquee to enjoy a gin, apple and elderflower cocktail, prosecco or bottles of beer which we kept topped up in a ‘beer barrow’. There were also soft drinks for the drivers and children.

A selection of our homemade canapes were served and included smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis, olive bread crostini with sun dried tomatoes and whipped goats cheese…

…and finally bacon and gruyere tartlets and spinach and feta filo fingers with a tzatziki dip. The guests enjoyed the drinks and canapés in the lovely Cornish sunshine while listening to Laura’s brother sing.

The table names were holiday destinations the couple had enjoyed visiting and the table plan was stylishly presented in picture frames for guests to take their seats.

From the very first time we spoke to Laura and Andy they were set on having a barbecue for their wedding breakfast, so that is exactly what we did… We served 100% butcher’s beef burgers from our butcher here in Okehampton, and free range, Jerk marinated chicken thighs from Crediton. These went down well and the guests loved Caroline’s homemade Jerk marinade. We also served sticky barbecue pork spare ribs…

…and fresh local salmon with a lemon and dill butter.

To accompany these dishes we served a selection of homemade artisan breads, mixed green leaf salad with a homemade dressing, classic creamy coleslaw, tabbouleh with fresh herbs, onions, sun dried tomatoes, peppers and walnuts and a feta and beetroot with rocket salad.

As Laura is a vegetarian we served a vegetable and halloumi stack with homemade fresh pesto. All these dishes were placed in the centres of the tables for the guests to share and help themselves.

Continuing along this theme, we served our ever increasingly famous dessert sharing platters, which contained glazed lemon tarts, raspberry pavlovas, chocolate and salted caramel brownie and vanilla cheesecake squares which were all homemade! These received many ‘wows’ and went down very well with all the guests.

Following desserts, we poured Prosecco ready for the speeches to commence, which included a very ‘guest-interactive’ best man’s speech.

Once all of the evening guests had arrived, Laura and Andy cut their beautiful wedding cake – another amazing one by Hannah’s Cornish Cakes.

In the evening we served Cornish steak pasties, cheese and onion pasties and cheese platters accompanied by biscuits, apple, celery, grapes, Devon butter and homemade chutney for the guests to help themselves as they danced the night away.
