On Saturday 14th July, we had the pleasure of catering for the wedding reception of Kate and Jon. The couple live in Birmingham but decided to marry in the picturesque South Devon countryside. Hatch marquees provided an excellent marquee, as always, which was set in the gardens of a family members house. The weather was incredibly warm and the sun was shining so guests made use of the fans provided as wedding favours and the canopy of lanterns and umbrellas over the dance floor.

Nature even made a visit with the clear marquee roof occupied by lots of butterflies fluttering around, making it their home for the weekend.

The couple had an eventful journey from the church with their wedding car unfortunately breaking down en route. In true, rural style a passing car picked the happy couple up and transported them safely to the marquee. A story to tell for years to come!! Upon arrival, we greeted them with garnished glasses of Pimms and lemonade, bottled beers and fruit juice for the younger guests. The guests mingled in the beautiful gardens, whilst enjoying a selection of canapes including smoked salmon, cream cheese and dill blinis; goats cheese, thyme and red onion tartlets; and mini ‘toad in the hole’ with Sweet Caramelised Red Onions.

For the wedding breakfast, we served a steak and ale pies made with steak sourced from our local butchers here in Okehampton; chicken and leek pies with Creedy Carver Chicken from Crediton; and butternut squash, spinach and goats cheese pie along with dishes of creamed mashed potatoes, red cabbage, a green vegetable medley of broccoli, peas and green beans, and jugs of chicken and beef gravy for guests to help themselves. Whilst, the adults enjoyed the pies, the children enjoyed local butchers sausages with mashed potato.

…and bowls of Devon Clotted Cream for guests to help themselves. Once the desserts had been devoured, we poured glasses of bubbly ready for the speeches and a quiz written by one of the guests.

In the evening, the groom and best man entertained the guests, performing a live music set. To keep guests fuelled for the dance floor we served freshly battered cod and hand cut chips along with tartare sauce and tomato sauce. Not forgetting the vegetarians, we also served Coriander and Chick Pea Burgers. The marquee looked stunning with the lights lit up as we left guests to party the night away.
