We’ve been reminiscing and thinking back to a local Devon wedding we catered for earlier in the year that kicked off our busy season…

It was just outside the pretty village of Bridestowe, just off the old A30, near Okehampton. The Bickle family are renowned for their family run B & B, Mavis being a renowned cook and host in her own right, so we were very privileged to be asked to cater at Rob and Danni’s wedding.

The marquee overlooked the rolling hills and tors of Dartmoor, with a navy theme throughout, beautifully decorated with ivy and natural flowers from the Devon hedgerows. The table names were, of course, breeds of cattle- Charolais and Limousine to name but a few… With the new home on the family farm, perfectly fitting!

Danni had a wonderful surprise in the form of a horse and cart, Devonshire transport from a bygone era, to transport her the mile or so to the church in the village. A little help was needed from us to ensure the dress arrived in pristine condition!

Upon return, after drinks and mingling time, the guest enjoyed a buffet of Devon ham and Topside of Devon beef, with a selection of salads… Not forgetting Robs special request of a large round pasty, very common in these parts, which went down a treat.

A selection of traditional desserts followed with coffee and speeches.

Rumour had it that Rob stopped on the way back from church to buy a Farmers Weekly…. Whether there’s any truth to that we couldn’t possibly comment!
