On Sunday 18th June, we were privileged to be the chosen caterers for Joy Allin’s 80th birthday celebrations in a marquee, set in the gardens of her son’s home near Clawton, Holsworthy in Devon. Joy herself was an outside caterer for 21 years so we felt honoured when she asked us to cater for her special day. The weather could not have been better with the sun shining for the hottest weekend of the year so far.
Joy’s guests were greeted with a glass of refreshing Pimm’s and lemonade before being treated to an afternoon tea style finger buffet. An assortment of sandwiches were freshly prepared on site with fillings including smoked salmon and cream cheese; cucumber; free range egg mayonnaise and cress; topside of Devon beef, sourced from our local butchers here in Okehampton, with creamed horseradish; and home cooked honey roasted ham with mustard. Guests could also help themselves to homemade vol-au-vents with prawn and creamy chicken & mushroom fillings. Our sweet offering included homemade buttermilk scones topped with Devon clotted cream and strawberry jam; baby coffee and chocolate éclairs; iced lemon drizzle cake squares; and baby raspberry pavlovas.
As guests enjoyed the food sat underneath the cool shade, cast by the canopy of the trees, we topped up their cups with plenty of freshly brewed tea and filter coffee.
