On Saturday 5th August, we were the chosen wedding caterers for the marriage of Samantha and Joe at Powderham Castle, near Exeter. The sun shone as the happy couple married on the Rose Terrace in front of their family and friends.
Following the ceremony, we greeted guests with a refreshing glass of ice cold Pimm’s and lemonade garnished with fresh fruit and mint or lemonade for the drivers and children. We also served a selection of canapes including chicken liver pate and homemade Mediterranean Chutney on Crostini; goats cheese, thyme and red onion tartlets…
…smoked salmon, cream cheese and dill blinis with micro dill…
…and tomato, feta and sun dried tomato toasts with micro basil.
The couple decorated the tables with simple yet effective mirrors reflecting the twisted willows and pretty flowers above, surrounded by twinkling candles that looked great as the evening sun set.
For the wedding breakfast, guests enjoyed chicken breasts, sourced locally from Creedy Carver in Crediton, with a white wine, mushroom, tomato, tarragon and cream sauce, whilst the vegetarians tucked into sweet potato, mozzarella, sun dried tomato and basil filo tart.
The children were served a favourite among many, local butchers sausages with mashed potato and onion gravy. Everyone could help themselves to dishes of new potatoes and carrots, broccoli and green beans.
To follow, we served a classic – chocolate profiteroles with ‘just warm’ chocolate sauce and ice cream for the smaller guests.
After we had ensured that everyone had cups of steaming freshly brewed coffee or English breakfast tea and a glass of bubbly, we left the guests to be entertained by the speeches.
In the evening, we cleared the tables and left the happy couple and their guests to dance the night away and nibble on a selection of West Country cheeses with assorted wafers, celery, grapes and homemade chutneys along with slices of the wedding cake. The royal blue colour theme cascaded down the beautiful wedding cake with a touch of orange to reflect the bridal bouquet.
