On Friday 30th June, we had the pleasure of catering for a fundraising ball at Sampford Courtenay village hall, near Okehampton in Devon. Sampford Courtenay is a quaint Devonshire village with a charming village hall that has a recently fitted new kitchen. The hall was decorated with multicoloured paper lanterns, bunting, twinkling fairy lights and flowers arranged by the local gardening club.

…and savoury choux bun filled with creamy wild mushrooms.

For main course we served chicken supreme, sourced from Creedy Carver in Crediton, with a white wine, tarragon, mushroom and tomato cream sauce; and butternut squash, stilton and pecan nut wellington with a madeira sauce for the vegetarians along with deep dishes of buttered new potatoes, and broccoli, carrots & green beans.

A trio of desserts allowed the guests to try a taste of everything and prevented the need for a pre order, including warm sticky toffee pudding with sauce; baked vanilla cheesecake with raspberry confit; and lemon posset with lemon confit and shortbread crumb served with bowls of Cornish clotted cream for guests to help themselves.

To follow we poured fresh filter coffee and English breakfast tea with chocolate mints, before the tables were cleared ready for guests to dance the night away to the live band.

A big well done to Anthony Morris, the village hall chairman, for organising this fantastic local event and thank you for letting us be a part of it.
