On Saturday 29th September, we had the pleasure of catering for the wedding of Sarah and Gary. The couple married at Bradworthy before returning to Langtree Village Hall for the wedding reception. Claremont marquees transformed the village hall, lining it with ivory drapes; once inside guests barely knew they were in a hall. Sarah planned a sophisticated colour scheme of white and burgundy, this was continued with the bridesmaid dresses, napkins and favours all tying everything together beautifully.

As the happy couple and their guests arrived, we greeted them with a glass of refreshing Pimms and lemonade, bubbly prosecco, ice cold bottled beers or orange juice for those seeking a non-alcoholic option. The sun was shining for guests to mingle on the grass field whilst the photos were taken, and we circulated a selection of homemade canapes. Miniature assorted poppadoms topped with coronation chicken and micro coriander…

…miniature butchers sausages with a honey and wholegrain mustard glaze and Caroline’s very own, incredibly popular KFC – crispy chicken skewers with a mustard mayonnaise dip were all devoured by the guests.

For the main course, we served roast topside of Devon beef with a homemade Yorkshire pudding and a rich gravy…

…chicken breast, sourced from Creedy Carver near Crediton, served with a leek, mushroom, bacon and white wine cream sauce; and crunchy pesto and mozzarella baked mushrooms for the vegetarians. Guests could then help themselves to crispy roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli and green beans served in dishes to the table.

For dessert, we served traditional individual desserts… chocolate truffle torte with fresh autumnal raspberries…

…and sticky toffee pudding with lashings of sticky toffee sauce all with bowls of Devon clotted cream for guests to help themselves. To finish, we poured fresh filter coffee or freshly brewed English breakfast tea with homemade chocolate truffles and mints. A glass of bubbly was also poured ready for the speeches to commence.

In the evening, as the guests danced to DJ Dan Grist and a band, we served crispy butchers bacon sourced from our local butchers here in Okehampton in a soft bap which proved popular amongst those wanting to soak up some of the beer. The couple also cut their simple yet elegant, wedding cake…
