On one of the hottest days of the year in July, we were the chosen wedding caterers for Chloe and Dan at the beautiful Oak Barn in Hittisleigh, near Exeter. The couple married in the Acorn Barn just across the gardens before returning to the Oak Barn for their wedding breakfast. Family and friends helped the couple decorate the barn, the day prior to the wedding with pretty bunting and personal touches.
The table centres were simple yet effective with log slices adorned with candles and greenery.
As guests entered the barn, they found their place with this clever table plan…
For the wedding breakfast, we served a three course meal. To start we served roasted tomato and fresh basil soup; chicken liver, brandy and thyme pate, Oaktree Chutney and Toasted Granary Bread; and Thai salmon fishcakes with a sweet chilli dipping sauce along with baskets of artisan breads and Devon butter.
For main course, we served slow cooked blade of beef in a rich red wine, mushroom and smoked bacon sauce; Creedy Carver chicken breast from Crediton with a white wine, tomato, tarragon and cream sauce; and sweet potato, mozzarella, sun dried tomato and basil filo tart along with dishes of creamed potatoes and carrots, broccoli and honey roasted parsnips. Whilst the younger guests enjoyed sausages from our local butchers here in Okehampton, with mashed potato and baked beans.
The couple chose to make the most of their wedding cake, serving it as dessert with guests offered from the selection of flavours: lemon, butterscotch, chocolate or vanilla, along with berries, coulis and Devon clotted cream.
We served the cake with fresh berries, raspberry coulis and bowls of Clotted Cream for guests to help themselves.
In the evening, we cleared the tables and left the bride, groom, guests and Paddington Bear to enjoy their evening of celebrations in the sunshine.
Thank you Chloe and Dan for letting us be a part of your special day and many congratulations once again.
