On Sunday 6th of August we were lucky enough to return to The Great Barn at Ashridge Court Farm, North Tawton, near Exeter, Devon. This time was for the marriage of Kata and Peter.
The couple had their wedding blessed with a humanist ceremony in The Magic Circle at Ashridge Court Farm at 3pm, which you can see above and as the weather was kind to us we were able to serve drinks and canapés straight after in this wonderful area, while the guests were left to explore the many pockets of beauty within this venue.
The canapes included a selection of homemade delights such as Devon crab filo cups, chilli chicken poppadums, tomatoes from Caroline’s garden near to Okehampton and mozzarella skewers, olive and prosciutto crostini, smoked salmon blinis and parmesan choux buns with a creamy wild mushroom filling.
After having photos with the spectacular house and bell tower as a back drop, the guests made their way down through the beautiful gardens, passing the peacocks to The Great Barn, to take their seats for us to serve the Wedding Breakfast.
To begin with the guests were served sharing platters to each table…
…with foods that included gravlax with a homemade, punchy, dill sauce, ceviche prawns, prosciutto, salami and chorizo, smoked goose which were bred at Ashridge, olives, sun blushed tomatoes, artisan breads and dipping oils, for the guests dive in and help themselves.
As we were beginning to clear the starters away Caroline and her brigade of chefs set an indulgent buffet of freshly cooked lamb and beef joints that were all locally supplied near to Okehampton, along with homemade Provençal vegetable tart for the guests that chose something a lighter. The guests were all carved their meat to their plates, enabling them to choose the exact cuts they preferred.
This was accompanied with hot, minted, new potatoes, mixed green leaf salad with a homemade dressing. In the selection of salads we served, crunchy cucumber, tomato and spring onion salad with a chilli and lime dressing, red cabbage, beetroot and apple salad and finally minted pea, bean and orzo salad that was a delight to eat with the lamb. Many of the guests were delighted with these food choices and we saw them back more then once.
For desserts Kata and Peter wanted to keep the offering simple, fresh and quintessentially English, with this brief we served Eton Mess, for guests to assemble themselves by placing meringues, lightly whipped cream, fresh strawberries, homemade raspberry coulis in the centre of the tables. We also placed homemade squares of lemon tart as something a little extra.
On each place the couple set a lolly with an edible flower within, they looked brilliant and certainly caught everyone’s attention.
After the extremely emotional speeches concluded that our very own Jo held the role of Master of Ceremonies to guide the speakers through, the disco slowly began with Kata and Peter taking to the dance floor with a specially choreographed routine.
Another beautiful wedding at this new and exciting venue, that we loved being a part of, especially as so many products came from Ashridge itself such as flowers and vegetables.
We wish Kata and Peter all the very best for their future together and thank you once again for letting us share in your day.
