On a sunny Saturday in March we, once again, had the pleasure of catering for the Tavistock Lion’s Club Annual Charter Dinner, at the beautiful Tavistock Town Hall in Devon.

Guests sat down to a three-course meal, all prepared at our dedicated preparation kitchen in Okehampton, using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and cooked on site in Tavistock. For starters, we served homemade cream of vegetable soup with crème fraiche and chives; chicken liver and brandy pate, Mediterranean chutney, toasts and dressed salad; and baby mozzarella, tomato and fresh pesto salad, all served with baskets of bread rolls and plenty of Devon butter.

For the main course, slow-braised steak with a red wine, mushroom and thyme sauce proved a popular alternative to the traditional roast beef. Chicken breast, sourced from Creedy Carver near Crediton, with a brandy, cream and garlic sauce; loin of cod with a tomato, basil, caper and olive sauce; and courgette and feta baklava with minted yoghurt fresh from Plymouth that morning and all served with dishes of buttered new potatoes and a panache of fresh, seasonal vegetables for guests to help themselves.

Homemade tarte au citron with raspberry coulis; crème brulee; and warm chocolate brownie were served as a trio of desserts along with bowls of Cornish Clotted Cream. Trio of desserts is fast growing in popularity again, allowing guests to enjoy a taste of everything and not requiring a pre-order.

Finally, we served freshly brewed tea and filter coffee along with chocolate mints, before allowing the guests to enjoy the rest of their evening on the dance floor.
