On Saturday 9th September 2017, we were asked to provide wedding catering in Yelverton, Devon for Lucy and Dominic that chose to marry at Buckland Monachorum Church then return to Lucy’s grand mothers house for a marquee reception.
The marquee was set on a tennis court and with Lucy’s love of horses Dominic and her dad built a fence inspired bar with some other fences dotted around the garden for extra WOW factor, along with one or two added decorations!
The day itself was showery and a second marquee had been erected on the lawn ‘just in case’ As the guests arrived after the ceremony we served Champagne and elderflower cordial along with a selection of our homemade canapés that included chicken liver pate with our own chutney on crostinis, smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis, goats cheese, thyme and red onion tartlets, roast beef Yorkshire puddings with creamed horseradish, our local butchers sausages with a honey and wholegrain mustard glaze and finally tempura prawns with a dill and lime mayonnaise.
Before the guests sat for the wedding breakfast that we catered, Lucy and Dominic cut their wedding cake. This was then cut to serve a little later.
For the wedding breakfast, Lucy and Dominic wanted a straight forward set menu, these work well if you are short on time or do not want to calculate food orders. At 6pm we served Caroline’s delicious celeriac soup with thyme and crispy pancetta along with artisan breads for the starter, followed by homemade steak and ale pies with creamed potatoes and a selection of fresh, local vegetables. The homemade Devon pies were certainly well received in the damp weather.
To finish the meal, the newly married couple wanted to offer a cheese selection which included ‘Lancashire Bombs’, Devon Blue and Somerset Brie along with a selection of biscuits, grapes, celery and homemade chutney. The wedding cake was also served at this time as something for the guests with a sweet tooth.
The speeches followed the meal, once the tables had been cleared the band started and the guests hit the dance floor! We ran the bar for the evening as Lucy and Dominic wanted to treat their guests.
Despite the weather, Lucy, Dominic, their family and friends had a great day. Once again many congratulations and thank you for choosing us as your wedding caterers.
