On Wednesday 20th September it was our pleasure to cater for a ‘Midweek Wedding’ at the beautiful Polhawn Forte, near Torpoint in Cornwall for Michelle and John.
The tables were set with equipment from the venue, the couple chose a rustic feel with log slices and hessian cutlery pockets.
Michelle and John chose to have an intimate wedding with their family and close friends at this iconic venue, midweek on a Wednesday. The ceremony was in the forte due to the inclement weather, however the couple did manage to have some photos later in the day outside with the sea as the beautiful backdrop.
We served drinks which were Pimm’s and Bucks Fizz along with a selection of homemade canapes after the ceremony. The canapes included poppadoms topped with coronation chicken and micro coriander, our homemade chicken liver pate with chutney on crostini…
…smoked salmon blinins, goats cheese, thyme and red onion tartlets, spiced vegetable samosas and bacon and Gruyere tarts.
For the wedding breakfast the guests sat in the arched dining area looking out to sea, for this meal we served leek and potato soup, thai salmon fishcakes with a sweet chilli dipping sauce or port and stilton pate all with artisan breads.
Main course Michelle and John wanted a carvery type meal without the guests having to leave their seats, so that is exactly what we did, we took the carvery to the guests tables on platters for their guests to help themselves. They had a mix of creddy carver chicken from Crediton, local topside of beef, pork and lamb along with Yorkshire puddings, homemade stuffing and a rich gravy. All this was served with crispy roast potatoes, and seasonal vegetables.
For dessert the guests had a choice of chocolate brownie, baked vanilla cheesecake or apple and blackberry crumble with lots of clotted cream. Finishing with fresh filter coffee, tea , homemade chocolate truffles and mints.
For the evening the guests had a juke box that they could put songs on, it worked brilliantly and everyone had their turn at spinning the tunes!!
After the new Mr and Mrs Bates cut their wedding cake we served fresh battered fish and ‘proper’ chips along with local cheeses to nibble the night away.
This was a small intimate, midweek wedding, where 5 of us went to look after the guests all day, which was fun for us also, especially as we were at a beautiful Cornish wedding venue beside the sea.
