On Friday 14th September, we were the chosen caterers for the marriage of Harriet and Scott. The couple live near Birmingham; Harriet holidayed in Shaldon, near Teignmouth as a young child and has a love for Devon and the Westcountry. So the couple decided to marry in Shaldon Church and from there, took a short walk with their guests to the lawns in front of The Ness where a marquee provided the perfect venue for their intimate reception.
Harriet embraced her new found passion for craft and created beautiful decorations to truly make the marquee their own. The ceiling held a canopy of pastel coloured paper lanterns that lit up in the evening.
The tables were topped with pretty centre pieces, homemade table numbers and each napkin was secured with a napkin ring made by Harriet. Vintage style step ladders were adorned with flowers, plants and homemade lettering.
The wedding breakfast began with sharing platters of proscuitto, salami, chorizo, marinated mixed olives, sun blush tomatoes which guests could enjoy alongside a selection of artisan breads with balsamic and olive oil and Devon Butter.
For the main course, we served chicken supreme, sourced from Creedy Carver near Crediton, with a creamy Somerset brie and smoked bacon sauce; crispy pork belly, from our local butchers here in Okehampton, with a caramelised apple cider sauce; and for the vegetarians or those seeking a lighter option, we served spicy leek, parsnip and apple cakes with a mint raita.
The little guests were given a firm favourite amongst children, local butchers sausages with homemade gravy and creamy mashed potato. To accompany, dishes of new potatoes and broccoli, honey glazed parsnips and green beans were placed on the tables for guests to help themselves.
The happy couple wanted to end their wedding breakfast with a relaxed, informal dessert option, so we served a buffet of their favourites… rich chocolate roulade with fresh cream and raspberry coulis, mixed berry pavlova, and no trip to Devon would be complete without homemade scones with bowls of strawberry jam and clotted cream for guests to top whichever way they liked!
As the evening drew chillier, we also offered steaming cups of freshly brewed English breakfast tea and fresh filter coffee with homemade chocolate truffles and mints.
As the sun set, we served a traditional seaside delicacy – freshly battered cod goujons with hand cut chips and tartare sauce – a perfect warmer in between the sets played by their fantastic band.
Thank you Harriet and Scott for letting us be a part of your special day, and many congratulations once again.
If you would like us to cater for your wedding, party or corporate function, please do get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
