A wedding based around Devon towns

On Saturday 20th May, we were the chosen wedding caterers for Kat and Jon that married at The Corn Barn near Cullompton in Devon.

From the set up the day prior, to us catering at their wedding we knew this was going to be a day filled with fun! As the tables were set with lego, colouring pencils, colouring patterns and sweets for all the guests to tuck in and enjoy. Each table was signposted with a postcard from a Devon town that the happy couple had visited

On the day, the couple married in the beautiful Corn Barn itself and followed this by drinks out in the garden. The guests then sat to enjoy a three course meal.

For the first course we served a choice of homemade leek and potato soup with crème fraiche and chives, Caroline’s chicken liver, brandy and thyme pate with granary toasts…

…or a bocconcini, tomato and homemade pesto salad, all served with a selection of artisan breads and Devon butter.

For the main meal, Kat and Jon wanted to offer their guests their favourite meal which was sausages, mash and onion gravy. We served local sausages from our butchers here in Okehampton. We also offered a chicken breast, fresh from Crediton, with a white wine, cream and mushroom sauce, and finally a sweet potato, sun dried tomato, mozzarella and basil filo tart. All served with a fresh summer collection of Devon vegetables.

The desserts went down a storm with us serving the families’ favourites which included chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce…

…summer berry pavlova with strawberries from the Tamar Valley…

…and Caroline’s famous sticky toffee pudding with lashings of warm toffee sauce, all completed by Devonshire clotted cream.

After the main meal was served the bride and groom judged the lego models to decide on a winner. There was some pretty impressive attempts, including a bride and groom marrying.

After speeches, the new Mr and Mrs Blatchford cut their fun and very different wedding cakes, which everyone thought was a great idea and real fun!
