When Lorraine and Duncan asked us to cater for their wedding in June, we were delighted. The couple chose to hold their reception in the beautifully, rustic Great Barn at Ashridge Court Farm. This is a relatively new venue, not far from Okehampton, which we have had the pleasure of working at, right from its humble beginnings. The barn provides a blank canvas allowing you to decorate it to reflect your own personality, truly making it your own.
Lorraine and Duncan did just that… embracing the rustic theme, they opted for golden straw bales and tables, constructed from pallets, draped with hessian cloths and log slices topped with simple yet pretty, summer flowers.
The couple married at Bondleigh church before making their way to Ashridge, where we greeted them in the glorious sunshine with a drink to quench their thirst.
We served glasses of Prosecco garnished with local, seasonal strawberries, along with bottled beers and soft drinks from a tin bath laidened with plenty of ice to keep them cool.
Guests were also delighted when we presented them with trays of homemade canapes which included a selection of both cold and warm options to suit all tastes. These included smoked salmon blinis with cream cheese and dill; olive bread crostini with sun dried tomato and whipped cheese; roast beef mini yorkshire puddings with horseradish cream; mini butchers sausages with a honey and wholegrain mustard glaze…
…crispy bacon and gruyere tartlets….
…and crispy chicken skewers with mustard mayonnaise dip.
Joined by their evening guests, we served a barbecue style menu from buffet tables under the canopy of trees surrounding the barn. We teamed up with a couple of Oaktree friends who provided the barbecued meats whilst we served a vegetarian spinach and ricotta filo tart and a selection of homemade salads and assorted condiments. These included classic creamy coleslaw, Mediterranean roasted vegetables with penne pasta, spicy saffron rice salad with pineapple, sultanas and peppers and a mixed green leaf salad.
To follow, we served a selection of homemade desserts adorned slate platters that guests could help themselves to, along with a cup of fresh filter coffee or english breakfast tea. Baby raspberry pavlovas, lemon cheesecake with lemon confit, chocolate brownie squares and fresh scones topped with strawberry jam and clotted cream, all proved popular with guests, young and old.
In the evening, the dancefloor opened up to guests dancing away to a Michael Buble tribute act and disco. Guests were also entertained taking photos of each other with a polaroid camera, providing the bride and groom with memories to remember forever.
We had an amazing day and also got to work with some of our favourite suppliers including Vince from Yeti Photography and Nicola from Nicola’s Cake Kitchen, who provided a beautiful wedding cake and pretty little cupcakes.
Thank you Lorraine and Duncan for choosing us to be a part of your special day and many congratulations once again.
