On Saturday 14th September we were asked to cater for Kelly and Amos at their barn wedding near Lifton, not too far from the Devon Cornwall boarder.
As the couple both come from farming backgrounds, it was important to Kelly and Amos that a farming theme was carried through their country wedding. With that in mind Kelly’s parents lined a shed on their family farm, so the shed looked like a marquee on the inside, all done by Claremont Marquees. There was the main eating section, which led into a bar and dance floor area followed by our kitchen, which all worked really well.
Each table was named after a field on the farm…
The sun shone for the couple as they married at Kelly Church, just a mile or so from Kelly’s family farm. After the ceremony, the guests drove to the reception and made their entrance through two post bangers, very apt as Amos has a fencing business.
We served Pimm’s and cold beers which went down a treat on this warm day.
Along with drinks we served a selection of homemade canapes that included smoked salmon, cream cheese dill blinis…
…red onion, Camembert and wild mushroom tartlets…
…crispy poppadoms with chicken, ginger and lime mayonnaise; Yorkshire puddings with roast beef and creamed horseradish; butchers sausages with honey and wholegrain mustard glaze…
…and finally crispy chicken with a mustard mayonnaise dip.
After the photos had been captured by Emily and Milly from South West Photographers, the guests made their way to the barn for the speeches, this was followed by the Wedding Breakfast. This comprised of a buffet of honey roasted gammon, Devonshire topside of beef and salmon fillet with a lemon and dill mayonnaise. Accompanying the meats we served a selection of homemade salads which were classic creamy coleslaw; fusilli pasta with spinach, pine nut, pesto and parmesan; spicy saffon rice; a mixed garden salad, hot new potatoes and finally a selection of chutneys and dressings.
For dessert, we served a trio of homemade desserts, banoffee pie (the grooms favourite), creme brulee and a raspberry pavlova. Freshly brewed coffee, tea, homemade truffles and mints were also served.
In the late afternoon sunshine the guests played a game, hammering nails into a log with a small head hammer, to see who could get this done the fastest and not miss the nail! The newly weds also cut their wedding cake which we cut and served for them.
As the evening drew in, we served a finger buffet that included freshly cut sandwiches, potato wedges with a garlic mayonnaise, chicken drumsticks, homemade quiches, scotch eggs, sausage rolls and jam donuts, along with cheese and biscuits.
This was a fantastic day, with great weather to match. We wish Kelly and Amos all the very best once again, for their future together and thank you for letting us be a part of your special day.
