Did you or a loved one recently get engaged? Firstly, huge congratulations to you, we are sure you are very excited. However, after the excitement starts to settle, and you have finished sharing your happy news with all your friends and family, you can feel overwhelmed. Where to start? Firstly, don’t panic you have plenty of time.

Devon Wedding Caterers

Start by choosing a date. Be prepared to have a couple in mind unless you are completely flexible on your key suppliers. If you have your heart set on a particular venue, you may need to have a couple of dates up your sleeve in case your preferred date is already taken.

Once you have a date, the next big things to get booked in are the venue and caterers if your venue doesn’t have in house caterers. If you are looking to have a barn lined on the farm or a marquee, then book your marquee company. And of course, if you would like a church wedding, then getting the church and vicar booked in is pretty essential too.

After a wedding, there is one thing that guests are always left talking about… the food! So taking some time to get this element right is as important as getting the right venue. When first enquiring with caterers there are a few things we all need to know. Sending this information in the initial email can help save time batting emails back and forth…

  1. Have you a venue in mind or region?
  2. Have you a date or any dates in mind?
  3. Approximately how many guests are you hoping to attend?
  4. Have you had any thoughts on what food you would like?
  5. Any thoughts on timings for the day?

We completely understand that you may not have some of this information, but if you do, tell us.

When booking any supplier, take note of their communication from the start. If they take ages to reply and don’t answer your questions, what are they going to be like the whole way through to the big day? Do you really want to be chasing your suppliers for answers?

With the venue, church and caterer booked you can relax a little, you have booked the biggest things.

Other suppliers to get booked include…

  • Wedding dress
  • Suits
  • Rings
  • Flowers
  • Wedding Cake
  • Invitations/Stationary
  • Entertainment – Band, DJ, musician?
  • Hair/Makeup

We hope this helps you start to navigate the minefield that is wedding planning. Remember to enjoy it!
