As everyone knows the year 2020 has been a complete wash out for weddings! For us what promised to be one of our busiest seasons in eight years turned out to be very different, with a large winter wedding in February before Coronavirus really took hold, some charity and civic work before everyone started postponing.
We then had 5 months of nothing! Just helping future brides and their families as best we could as well as taking future bookings (thankfully).
In September we re opened our kitchen and catered for a small, covid safe wedding which was truly special. The phone rang straight off and we both thought ‘yes, we can continue to stay open with smaller events for 30 or less’. We had a Sunday lunch book, a dinner party and two funerals in the first couple of days, we catered the funerals then BANG! The restriction of 6 people was bought in…
So what do we do now??? We had always wondered about takeaways, but with food that is different to the ‘normal’ takeaway of Chinese, pizza, kebabs, fish and chips. The idea of a two course, restaurant quality meal came about, with Caroline cooking the food she loves to cook. We bought a few takeaway boxes and put a menu out, not really knowing what to expect. Well we did better then expected in week 1.
Week 2, was insane and we had to close the bookings. Everyone came out to support us from former wedding couples and their families, people that we have met through catering events, friends and family, we were truly overwhelmed.
The last eight weeks have been a roller coaster with a new lock down introduced, working out new methods of catering and getting used to packing food into boxes along with the emotion of all of this.
Here is a picture by one of our regular customers as they sit to eat their takeaway.
We are now set to continue until New Year and are even offering to serve a chilled Christmas Day Lunch which can be collected on Christmas Eve along with extra goodies to give you a little helping hand if you are planning on having the family all around. There are canapes, desserts, vegetables and some tasty pies and sausage rolls for evening nibbles and Boxing Day, all homemade of course. New Years Eve we have a special sharing menu with a trio of desserts, lets just hope that we can all celebrate with a few more then just two people.
Finally we want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support, not only buying our takeaways but telling other people all about us, we have made some fantastic new Oaktree friends! We have been truly overwhelmed.
If you would like to try a takeaway meal or have us cook for you at Christmas and New Year then please do take a look at our weekly menus by following this link https://www.facebook.com/oaktree.occasions/ or alternatively calling us on 01837 55841.
