On Saturday 1st June, we had the pleasure of catering for the wedding of Lloyd and Lucy at the Corn Barn near Cullompton. The sun was shining and the weather was really warm for the first day of June. The couple married at the higher end of the barn beyond an arch decorated with greenery by a local florist.
As the ceremony finished, the Corn Barn staff served drinks as we mingled with a selection of our homemade canapes including olive bread crostini with sun dried tomato and whipped goats cheese; smoked salmon, cream cheese and dill blinis with micro dill, miniature assorted poppadoms topped with coronation chicken and micro coriander; miniature butchers sausages with a honey and wholegrain mustard glaze; and mushroom and garlic parmesan pastry tartlets.
The couple decorated the tables with simple wooden hearts and simple flower arrangements.
Each guest received a tealight personalised as a memory of the couple’s day along with an individual message in a little glass bottle personalised to each guest which we thought was a lovely idea.
Before sitting down to the wedding breakfast, the newly married couple cut their three tier wedding cake decorated with yellow sugar flowers.
The couple wanted a 3 course meal which began with chicken liver, brandy and thyme pate, Oaktree chutney and toasted granary bread; bocconcini, tomato and basil salad with rocket and homemade pesto dressing…
…or homemade leek and potato soup, all served with baskets of artisan breads with Devon butter.
For main course, we served roast topside of Devon beef sourced from our local butchers here in Okehampton, served with a homemade Yorkshire pudding and a rich gravy…
chicken breast sourced from Creedy Carver near Crediton, with a white wine, mushroom, tomato, tarragon and cream sauce and butternut squash, stilton and pecan nut wellington with Madeira sauce. To accompany, we served crispy roast potatoes, carrots broccoli and green beans in dishes to the tables for guests to help themselves.
To follow, we served Lloyd and Lucy’s own wedding cake which we garnished with summer berries, raspberry coulis and clotted cream. After clearing the desserts they did their speeches before we poured cups of steaming hot freshly brewed English breakfast tea and fresh filter coffee.
After clearing everything away, we left the happy couple and their guests to celebrate into the night.
Thank you Lloyd and Lucy for letting us be a part of your special day and many congratulations once again. And thank you to Lucy’s parents who delivered this lovely card just a couple of days later.
