We first met Helen and Roger, who are both teachers, on numerous occasions when catering for various Holsworthy Rotary Club dinners as they are both strong members. Back on the 30th July 2016, we catered for the wedding anniversary of Helen and Roger at Halwill. Through the rotary club, we have had the pleasure of keeping in touch with them. We were, therefore, honoured when they asked us to cater for their daughter Rebecca’s wedding to Danny on Saturday 4th May.
The couple married at Ashwater Church before returning to Roadford Lake for the reception. Although a little chilly, the sun did shine and the weather was calm, with the trees surrounding the lake casting a beautiful reflection on the still water.
As the happy couple and their guests arrived, we served a couple of canapes to offer guests a bite to eat… Miniature butchers sausages with a honey and mustard glaze and olive bread crostini with whipped goat’s cheese, sun dried tomato and basil.
Guests were able to mingle on the lawn and patio surrounding the reception room, admiring the views whilst the photographer captured the day.
Rebecca chose a blue colour theme which continued from her bridesmaid dresses to the bouquet right through to the table decorations. Rebecca had cleverly made origami flowers which were interspersed with real flowers for a slight twist. The flowers were kindly arranged by a family friend who did a great job.
For the wedding breakfast we served sharing platters of cold meats and dishes of salads for guests to help themselves without moving from their seats. Guests could tuck into honey glazed gammon ham, topside of Devon beef sourced from our local butchers here in Okehampton, homemade broccoli and stilton quiche alongside minted new potatoes, mixed green leaves with a honey and wholegrain mustard dressing, classic creamy coleslaw, mixed tomato, red onion and basil salad and tabbouleh; bulgar wheat, fresh herbs, peppers, spring onions and walnuts with a piquant dressing, artisan breads with Devon Butter, and assorted condiments.
Rebecca’s love for origami also showed on the wedding cake with a cascade of miniature origami flowers which they cut after main course to be served with the tea and coffee.
We then served a trio of desserts, creme brulee, dark and white chocolate brownie and lemon parfait along with bowls of Devon clotted cream for guests to help themselves. To follow we served steaming cups of English breakfast tea and fresh filter coffee with homemade chocolate truffles and mints along with glasses of bubbly ready for the speeches.
For the younger children, we served picnic baskets of ham and cheese sandwiches, cocktail sausages, cocktail pasties, crisps, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and carrot sticks and chocolate brownie.
In the evening, we served roast leg of pork with homemade apple sauce and sage & onion stuffing served in a granary or white floured bap. Guests could also help themselves to a selection of Westcountry cheeses: Somerset brie, Devon blue, tickler mature cheddar and Quickes smoked with a selection of assorted wafers, celery, grapes and homemade chutney. We then left the guests to dance the night away.
Thank you Rebecca and Danny for letting us be a part of your special day and many congratulations once again.
