We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported us this year, especially as this year has been like no other!

The year 2020 started off with the promise of being one of our busiest years to date, in the eight years that we have been event catering. The numbers 2020 meant a great deal to some couples, with dates such as 20/06/2020 and 08/08/2020 selling fast and these dates we could have sold a hundred times. Maybe these dates are easier to remember for anniversaries!!

The early months were great with some charity events, some of our yearly civic functions and a beautiful winter wedding in a tipi the weekend of storm Ciara, which seems along time ago! Yes the tipi blew and a stronger catering tent had to be erected to take the winds, but we survived and laughed about what this year would bring.

BANG – mid March arrived and we started receiving postponements, moving weddings and events to later in the year and the odd few on to next year. The 23rd March, we closed the kitchen down and stayed at home for the next five months. We are not going to lie but the first month was lovely to rest, we have not had time off like that since before we started our restaurant in 2008 and thankfully we have always ran our business with caution so we could survive doing this, but ‘yes’ there was some very emotional times, sleepless nights and they all still continue now.

In April/May, when we realised that we would not be seeing our great team anytime soon, we started a weekly quiz night. A way in which we could all touch base and see each other with everyone taking a turn at hosting, it was good to see our fantastic team again and we had some really fun question rounds.

At the end of July we had the go ahead that one of our couples were going to get married in September with the reduced numbers. Excitedly we finalised the details, purchased covid safe equipment, deep cleaned the kitchen and did our second wedding of 2020 on Sunday 6th September. A slightly anxious day for us and the guests, but it was amazing, intimate and so so special, a day that many will remember for along time to come.

The restrictions were set at 30 people, the phone was ringing and we were doing small events of 30 people or under. We were happy, we were back working and there was some revenue coming in.

BANG – again, really!! Yes restrictions down to a maximum of 6 people, so the takeaway that we had thought about came to fruition. We went for a two course restaurant quality meal, providing the food that we are used to serving and offering something different to other takeaways. If someone had said we would be filling foil containers with food 12 months ago we would have definitely laughed out loud! Now we are extremely grateful we can! We even enjoy it!

Now after two months we have been totally overwhelmed by the support. The Oaktree friends came out in force to support us and we have made many new Oaktree friends, people that support us week in and week out. We cannot thank you all enough and feel very humble.

Over the years we have been asked about making desserts for Christmas and recipes for Caroline’s renowned red cabbage, so this year and continuing on with the takeaways we have taken the bull by the horns and continue on through Christmas and New Year. Who knows what 2021 will bring but we hope that it will certainly be no worse then what 2020 bestowed on us all.

All that is left for us to say is a MASSIVE THANK YOU, we truly appreciate all the support and encouragement that we have received and we wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and A  HAPPY NEW YEAR. We hope you all stay safe and well and look forward to seeing you in 2021.
