On a crisp Saturday in February, we had the pleasure of catering for the wedding of Kelly and Mikey at Wooladon Estate near Lifton. The couple chose to have a tipi erected on the wedding site which overlooks the beautiful rolling hills of Devon and Wooladon House. Kelly and Mikey were married at Halwill Church before returning to the estate for their reception. As the guests entered the marquee they were wowed by the beautiful decorations, that Kelly and her team of family and friends had put together the day prior.
As guests mingled and photographs were taken by Maxi Photography, we served a selection of homemade canapes. These included miniature butchers sausages with a sticky hoi sin glaze, mushroom, camembert and red onion tartlet…
… crispy chicken skewers with a mustard mayonnaise dip (a.k.a. Caroline’s KFC)…
… and finally cones of tempura cod and hand cut chips with lemon tartare.
Each table was adorned with a combination of floral arrangements on stands and some in glass domes, whilst the chairs were decorated with forest green drapes that add a pop of colour. Twinkling fairy lights were intertwined around the poles along with ivy.
Once the guests were seated we served the wedding breakfast… Kelly and Mikey wanted a wintery warming menu to reflect the time of year. They chose our homemade individual pies with shortcrust pastry and different fillings that guests could choose between in the weeks prior… rich steak and stilton; creamy chicken, leek and smoked bacon; and butternut squash, spinach and goats cheese. Each guest received their individual pie on a plate in front of them and could then help themselves from the dishes of dauphinoise potatoes, braised red cabbage, carrots and green beans that we placed on the table. Kelly indicated each guest’s pie choice for us on their place card with different coloured pearls. This is always great for us as it allows us to provide an efficient service and prevents guests from forgetting what they ordered and changing there choice.
For dessert, we served sharing platters of desserts… apple and blackberry crumble, lemon posset and lemon confit, white and dark chocolate brownie, and banoffee pie. These created a real ‘wow’ factor and got guests talking as we placed them on the tables along with bowls of Devon clotted cream.
To finish, we served cups of fresh filter coffee and English breakfast tea, ready for guests to sit back and enjoy the speeches.
In the evening, we served soft white and granary baps filled with crispy back bacon served with tomato sauce and HP sauce. We also prepared the couple’s cheese cake on a slate ready for guests to indulge in, along with baskets of crackers, grapes, figs, celery and chutney.
After everyone was refuelled with bacon, we left them to party the night away to JJ and the Sixes who were the band for the evening.
Thank you Kelly and Mikey for letting us share in your special day, and many congratulations once again.
