Steph and Lawrence wanted a midweek wedding at the beautiful Oak Barn not far from Exeter or Okehampton. So on Wednesday 24th July, we had the pleasure of being their chosen wedding caterers. As the guests appeared ready for the ceremony from the on site accomodation, we served glasses of Steph and Lawrence’s homemade pink lemonade, a welcome refreshment in the heatwave we were experiencing. The couple married in the Oak Barn itself that was decorated with drapes and wisteria before heading up to the Acorn barn for some Grease style dancing and candy floss.

The couple were keen for their reception to have a fun party vibe and not to be too formal. With both loving American food, they asked us if we could serve an American diner themed menu so that is exactly what we did. Butchers pork sausages and beef burgers were placed on platters on the tables, along with baskets of hot dog rolls and burger baps, complete with a selection of sides for guests to help themselves. These included corn on the cob, thin crispy fries, pickled gerkhins, buttery fried onions, lettuce, tomato, red onion and cucumber, homemade classic creamy coleslaw and assorted condiments.

Each table was named after one of Steph & Lawrences favourite 50’s artists…

To follow, we served banana splits with vanilla ice cream, fruit and raspberry coulis; knickerbockerglorys and fresh fruit salad along with cups of fresh filter coffee or English breakfast tea, homemade chocolate truffles and mints.

Following the meal and the speeches, the guests made their way out to the garden whilst we cleared the tables ready for the evening reception. The happy couple and guests were delighted when these little ones made an appearance with John from the Oak Barn…
