We answer some
commonly asked questions

If you have any others then please let us know and we’ll be happy to answer them.

What kind of functions do we cater for?

We pride ourselves on being able to cater for a number of different events from parties, to corporate dinners, shoot catering, private dinner parties, wedding receptions, hog roasts, working lunches, corporate presentations, charity balls, anniversary dinners, agricultural tents at shows, funerals, or just a celebration. The list goes on and on, catered and served, or just delivered. If you have something else in mind, we love a new challenge so please give us a call.

Where will we cater?

We are ideally located in Okehampton, on the edge of Dartmoor, allowing us excellent access across Devon. We are happy to travel within an approximate 40 mile radius, further afield can be considered, subject to travel expenses. If we have not worked at your particular site before we will always do a site visit to ensure we know our working area in preparation for your event.

Which venues?

We are happy to work in all venues, from marquees to barns, houses, and halls. If there is a limited kitchen then we are able to set up a kitchen tent on the side, if the venue allows. We can help you suit the menu to the venue and the facilities. Why not check out our friends and suppliers list for venue inspiration.

Can we chill our drinks in your fridge vans?

Unfortunately not, our fridge vans will be full with your fresh food keeping it nice and safe. We also recommend your drinks are chilled for a minimum of 24 hours before serving. If you have lots of your own drinks, we would recommend hiring a fridge trailer. If, however, it is just wine for the tables and bubbly, keep an eye out for cheap second hand fridges that you can use and sell on.

Can you cut our wedding cake?

Yes of course. Providing we are still on site when you cut your cake, we will happily cut and plate your cake.

Choosing your Menu….

We have included a wide range of dishes in the menu section for you to peruse. Having experience from many events we are able to work alongside you to create your bespoke menu. Taking into consideration flavours, tastes and textures that suit you and your guests.

If you are unsure on what foods to serve we have prepared menus that you can peruse and choose from or we can adjust them to create your unique menu.

However if there is something you fancy and it is not there, please do not hesitate to ask.

Style of Food and Service…

Whether it is a traditional set menu served to your table with vegetables to share, festival style barbecue, sharing platters, a sumptuous buffet, beautifully presented for your guests to help themselves or a canapé reception with small mouthfuls of joy, we can serve the food you have chosen in the particular way you want it served.

If you have a quirky idea which is different to the “norm” then we will meet with you to establish the best style of service and presentation…we love a new challenge!

Unlike the majority of caterers we do not charge any extra for a menu with choices, we are happy to offer three starters, three main courses (including a vegetarian option) and three desserts with fresh filter coffee and mints and homemade truffles.

What about children?

Children can be easily catered for… often smaller portions of the main course and desserts work perfectly. Alternatively, we can offer a simple all round child pleaser, such as sausages and mash. We price children in 3 categories, under 2s, 3-9 years and 10-13years.

I have a vegan guest... do I need to plan my menu around them?

Simple answer… no not at all! Feel free to choose your own menu that suits you both as a couple and the majority of your guests tastes. We can then adapt your vegetarian options to be vegan. Or if it doesn’t translate into a scrummy vegan choice, we’ll design something else for them.

How do I get your prices?

Give us a call or contact us via the contact form. We can then provide you with a bespoke quote or price list for your event.

Can you provide table linen?

Yes we have white table linen in stock all the time. Or we can hire in a range of colours to suit your dream vision.

Pre Orders versus No Order!

No Pre Order? You could offer share platters, a buffet or a trio of desserts? The only detail you then have to worry about is any guests that have special dietary requirements.

If you offer a choice of dishes for each course you will need to provide a place card for each guest to place on the table with their choices marked for efficient and professional service. We require a copy of your table plan along with your guests choices, ideally in a spreadsheet format.

Can you cater for allergies and special dietary requirements?

There are many allergies, we take them all seriously and we are happy to cater for them at no extra charge. Our kitchen has a 5-star hygiene rating so we can ensure you that each special diet will be cooked with the greatest of care.

Do you use local suppliers?

Absolutely! Our meat is sourced from our local butchers just down the road, our fish from Plymouth and we work with a fruit and vegetable supplier who pride themselves in Westcountry produce.

Feeding suppliers...

We are more than happy to feed any suppliers such as photographers at a reduced rate. Just let us know in advance so we can come prepared.

My favourite meal isn't on your menu...

If you can’t see what you’re looking for that doesn’t mean we can’t do it… ask us!!

Will you lay the tables up?

For the majority of events we like to arrive either the day before or early to lay the tables up. This also allows us to have a final run through of all the details and gives you time to add your own personal touches.

Drink Service…

We are able to serve any beverages, from reception/arrival drinks, wine and champagne at the tables, to cocktails of your choice. We do not charge any corkage. We are able to provide bar staff if you would like to create your own bar or we can provide you with contact details of outside bars that we work with frequently.

We are happy to offer advice on refrigeration needs for your event. Removal of bottles is down to the client.

Can you be our Master of Ceremonies?

Yes both Jo and Catherine can be an MC on the day. Or if you have a friend or family member in mind for the role, we can prompt them throughout the day allowing them to relax and enjoy themselves without clock watching.

Equipment Hire…

If you need to hire equipment we have a large amount of stylish Carlton cutlery, timeless white crockery, stylish Eliza glassware and serviceware available. We can set up a kitchen almost anywhere! Owning all our own kitchen equipment including cookers, hot cupboards, water boilers, coffee machines, etc… Having all our own equipment means that we can ensure that it is maintained to our high standard.

Waiting Staff…

We can provide waiting and bar staff for your event. All our staff are trained to a high standard, are extremely professional and work with us frequently so that we have excellent continuity. All the staff wear black trousers or skirts, oxford grey shirts and waist aprons.

Financials…

To secure us for your event we ask for our booking form to be completed and a deposit payment to secure the date, this can be paid by BACS.

Once we have established your requirements, your quote will be itemised into sections; menu (including chefs), equipment hire and labour.

Do you clear up?

Yes we will clear all the cutlery, crockery and glassware that is no longer needed from the tables along with any rubbish at the end of every event. We will also ensure that the kitchen is returned to exactly how we left it.

Will you see our florist and cake maker in on the day?

We always arrive on site early, so if we are going to be there when your other suppliers arrive, we are more than happy to point them in the right direction.

Will you serve the canapes and desserts that our family friend made?

No unfortunately not. We cannot guarantee that this food has been safely prepared and transported. We do allow you to supply your own sweets, wedding cake and cheese and biscuits.

Wedding Tasting…

We are happy to provide a pre-booking tasting by arrangement for two people with a small fee; this will be refunded off your final invoice if you confirm the booking. Alternatively, we are happy to offer a complimentary tasting for two after booking if you need help deciding upon your menu.

More guests can be catered for upon request.

Where is your food prepared?

Caroline and her chefs prepare all of your food to a certain point in our dedicated kitchen before we get to site, with final assembly and cooking taking place at your location. Our kitchen has a 5-star hygiene rating and we are fully compliant with all Food, Health and Safety Regulations, and have all relevant insurances.

How is your food transported?

We have our own refrigerated vans, these also become our fridges on site to ensure that even on the hottest days your food is safe.

Timings for your event?

We always provide a detailed itinerary for your event, taking all the small details into account. This will enable you to have a schedule enabling you to make the most of your suppliers and the time available. We pride ourselves on being able to organise a flawless event.

Who will manage your event?

We guarantee to deliver everything within our remit, ensuring your event goes smoothly – leaving you free to relax and enjoy it.

Our Client Feedback

Ellie and Jono’s wedding was an amazing day… The work done by you and your team relived us from responsibility so we were able to join in the celebrations and relax. And then the food! Fantastic. We’ve had so many comments saying it was the best people had experienced at a wedding…
