As a bit of fun and because we get to know our wedding couples and their families quite well through out the planning process and on the day we thought that some of you might like to know a bit more about us, Caroline and Jo. Here we are below at one of our first weddings at Buckland House, in Devon.
We met in 1999 at the Clovelly Inn near Okehampton, where once every three weeks or so we would both be in the pub with friends. There was always a constant theme and laugh in our conversations of how many hours we had both worked the few days/weeks prior as both of us had always worked in the hospitality trade. From here we became friends….
Fast forward to 2008 and we met again after going in different directions. It was now that we realised we had all angles of hospitality covered between the two of us and we could run our own business together. Holsworthy Golf Club in Devon wanted someone to run their restaurant and bar, Oaktree Restaurant was formed and we soon were running a busy establishment for golfers, functions, corporate events, Sunday lunch and parties. We have always been overwhelmed with what we achieved there and the support we received.
In the latter years we were asked to cater for weddings in marquees and we always said no, but one day we said yes and since that day we have never looked back as the feed back from this day left us and our team feeling completely overwhelmed.
In January 2013 we found ourselves an industrial unit in Okehampton which we converted into a commercial kitchen, office, tasting room and storage area. We bought a refrigerated van and equipment. Oaktree Occasions was born….
Now, just shy of four years on from us opening our commercial kitchen we have a full summer diary for 2017 and already booking 2018, with many weddings, dinners, private and corporate events already booked. We pinch ourselves regularly with what we achieve and the amount of enquiries we receive wanting us to cater, that have been passed on by word of mouth. We always give 100% care and attention to all our events to ensure the perfect day and, or evening is had by all, with no stress!
Our friendship too, has gone from strength to strength which even included leaving our loving, supportive men at home last year and going on holiday together. A real testament to how strong our friendship is.
We have always had an amazing team behind us, many have been with us since our Holsworthy Golf Club days, others joined in later years and some that come back from university every holiday to help.
The events that we cater for would not be the same without our team and we thank them dearly for all their constant support and hard work. In the last year or so we have catered for past staff at their own weddings, which we enjoy so much, but does make us feel slightly old!
So as we continue on our journey we thank you all for the support and kindness that you have for us and Oaktree Occasions. We look forward to meeting many more families and catering for many more functions and corporate events here in Devon and beyond.
