On Saturday 5th August 2017 we were the chosen wedding caterers for Gemma and Jacob that married in Buckland Monachorum church near Tavistock in Devon.
Wow, what an amazing eye for detail this couple had, their colours, themes and ideas all beautifully linked together to create a truly amazing day for their family and friends.
Our weekend started on the Friday when we went out to Gemma’s parents farm to begin setting up in the marquee. The moment we walked into the marquee, we knew that this wedding would be one to remember. Every inch was decorated with so much care and attention, the bunting matched the flowers, which in turn matched all the stationary, you could not fail to be impressed!
Each place setting was also thought out in detail, with a place card and menu, which is always great for guests so that they can see what they are eating, along with a small memento of their day.
We arrived on Saturday morning to find more of their personal touches including a table topped with homemade beers finished with personalized labels for their guests to help themselves.
We greeted the guests with glasses of Pimm’s and lemonade garnished with fresh fruit, bottled beers and orange juice for the drivers. As the guests mingled in the sunshine, we served a selection of cold and warm canapes which included chicken liver pate and homemade Mediterranean chutney on crostini…
…smoked salmon cream cheese and dill blinis with micro dill; tomato, feta and sun dried tomato toasts with micro basil; and roast beef miniature Yorkshire puddings with horseradish cream. We get to work with some great suppliers and this day was no exception with Jules from Rockrose Photography taking some stunning photos and really capturing the atmosphere.
Following the seating of the guests, Gemma and Jacob were called into a rapturous applause. For the wedding breakfast, we served Westcountry beef; home cooked ham with a honey glaze; puff pastry open tart of mixed peppers, red onion and cheddar; and new potatoes with fresh herb butter from a buffet table.
Guests could help themselves from a selection of salads which included mixed green leaf salad with homemade wholegrain and olive oil dressing, classic creamy coleslaw; cous cous with roasted peppers, red onion, sun dried tomatoes…
…feta and fresh herbs; minted pea, bean and orzo salad along with a selection of homemade chutneys, dressing and condiments. Baskets of artisan breads and Devon butter were placed on the table next to the beautiful table decorations of pretty jam jars laced with rustic hessian and ribbon all laid upon a log slice.
To follow guests were delighted when they saw the selection of our homemade desserts on offer from the buffet station. Lemon meringue roulade, vanilla cheesecake with a berry compote and light truffle torte with dark and white chocolate curls provided a selection of flavours to suit everyone, with many going back for a sneaky extra portion.
To finish we poured steaming cups of fresh filter coffee and freshly brewed tea, with homemade truffles and chocolate mints. Prior to the entertaining speeches, a glass of bubbly was poured for everyone.
The guests also had the opportunity to sign the fab guest book and one that we had not previously seen.
As many of the guests gathered outside on the straw bales, we cleared the tables and ensured that there was plenty of space for lots of dancing. The wedding cake provided another talking point with Gemma’s fantastic cake topper taking pride of place, which she made herself.
As the sun set, a ceilidh band played to a packed dance floor creating an amazing atmosphere with each and every guest boasting huge smiles. For those that needed to refuel and a minute to catch their breath, we offered fresh bread rolls filled with roast leg of pork topped with lashings of homemade apple sauce and sage and onion stuffing. The vegetarians were not forgotten with Caroline’s popular spicy leek and parsnip cakes.
Guests also had the opportunity to take a selfie….
The bar that served Gemma and Jacob’s guests in the evening was made by Gemma’s dad and what a great job he did of it!
The couple also displayed pictures of them throughout the last nine years, so this really was a ‘a perfect match’.
After a day the whole Oaktree team will remember, we left the happy couple and their guests to dance the night away. A huge thank you to Gemma and Jacob for letting us be a part of your special day and many congratulations once again.
