On Saturday 16th September we were the chosen wedding caterers for Emma and Richard that married at Tetcott Church and returned to Emma’s family home just outside this pretty village in Devon.

It was lovely to cater for Emma and Richard as we previously catered for Emma’s sister Sadie and her groom Charlie earlier in the year, so it was great to see the family once again.

Jo went out on the Friday to set up and what was once a farm shed had been transformed into a fab wedding venue, with amazing views. The boys were busy outside putting wood chip down as the great Devonshire weather was again not being kind, this did make a huge amount of difference, however the day itself was almost dry!

As the views are so good from the barn, the couple erected a frame so their guests could mark the day.

The barn was lined by Claremont Marquees, a carpet was put down and a dance floor. In the corner of the barn a lined area was created for a kitchen that worked really well for us.

The barn was decorated with beautiful vintage tea pots and cups filled with flowers which were arranged by Flowers by Donna  who is from Launceston. These were set upon log slices that had R+E written within them. As Richard runs a garage an oil drum was a perfect wedding cake stand!

The guests arrived on the day for ice creams, Pimm’s and bottles of beer before taking their seats for the Wedding Breakfast. Emma and Richard wanted a pic-nic/ Grand mothers tea feel for their menu and this is exactly what we did!

Once the guests took their seats we served a selection of foods that we put in the centre of each table, this included Caroline’s famous Devon Plate Pasty, home cooked honey roast ham, chicken liver, thyme and brandy pate, pepperdew peppers, Devon cheddar and Cornish brie, olives, homemade chutney, pickles and finally creamy coleslaw, potato salad and mixed leaves. This was all topped off with a selection of artisan breads and butter.

This meal was really enjoyed by Emma and Richard’s family and friends and made a really nice change for us to serve. To finish the meal off in a real West Country fashion we served saffron cake with butter, jam and clotted cream scones and a selection of wedding cake on vintage tiers with tea or coffee, truffles and mints.

As Emma and Richard have a little boy called Marley that was very much a part of their day, we catered special pic-nics for Marley and his friends. These were served in a basket and contained small finger sandwiches, crisps, carrot and cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, a pasty and cocktail sausages. All topped off with chocolate brownie. This was a real hit and is now setting the trend for future weddings.

After the emotional speeches we cleared up and tidied the tables ready for the dancing to begin!
