On Saturday 19th August 2017 we were the chosen caterers for Frances and Toby that had their marriage blessed with a humanist ceremony at Toby’s family home at Lustleigh, near Chagford in Devon.

The ceremony was held in the woods and what a perfect setting this was as there was a natural arena for the ceremony to take place. We were treated to a beautiful tent from Sperry Tents and they enhanced the woods by building a platform. A truly magical area and one that we are sure the guests will remember.

The day prior Jo and her team set the tent for Frances and Toby, the couple chose to embrace the natural woodland area and what a fab job the couple, along with their helpers did. The wooden tables were dressed with doyles that was so simply but looked so effective and lots of natural greenery that bought the theme together. A top table back drop was created from wood, greenery and hearts which looked amazing!

Frances’s dress must also have a mention as this too matched in with the day and the natural flowers, the train was complimented with hand made flowers that looked amazing, here she is with her brother before heading down the isle.

When the guests emerged from the woods we served Prosecco along with a selection of homemade canapés that included, smoked salmon blinis, honey and mustard glazed sausages, poppadums with chilli, lime and garlic chicken, roast beef miniature Yorkshire puddings, sundried tomato arancini with a spicy tomato dip and finally a goats cheese, red onion and thyme tartlet.

The guests sat down at 7pm for the Wedding Breakfast that began with mixed Kalamata olives, artisan breads, tapenade and a saffron mayonnaise. As guests nibbled their way through this other tables were invited to the sumptuous buffet that included homemade local Devon lamb, squash and apricot tagine, chicken breast, sourced from Crediton, near Exeter, with a white wine and mushroom sauce and finally spinach and feta baklava with a mint raita. We served this with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, pilau rice, sea salt and black pepper roasted potatoes and finally a green salad, so that guests could enjoy a selection of accompaniments.

For desserts, the couple did not want their guests to stand for a buffet again and liked the idea of our famous sharing platters, as ever we compiled a selection of  Frances and Toby’s favourite desserts that included a homemade apple and blackberry crumble, lemon cheesecake squares, vanilla panna cotta pots and chocolate éclairs all accompanied with Devonshire clotted cream.

Once the speeches had been said and the cake cut, Frances and Toby headed off to the woods once again for their first dance and to party the night away.

This was a real fun wedding, with lots of love and laughter and all so natural in beautiful surroundings. It was a pleasure to be part of it and we congratulate Frances and Toby once again.
