On a beautiful sunny day at the end of July, we were the chosen caterers for the wedding of Ellie and James at Sidmouth, near Exeter.

The marquee was set on the water’s edge of the River Sid with the decorated bridge providing the perfect location for some lovely photos of the couple.

The couple transformed the marquee with a green ceiling of small tree branches providing a real ‘wow’ factor and flowers beautifully arranged by Ellie.

The ceremony was held beside the water at the Sidmouth venue outdoors in the glorious sunshine, to the sound of the trickling water.

As the ceremony finished, the guests were served Prosecco in champagne flutes garnished with fresh strawberries and elderflower cordial for the drivers.

The guests made their way into the shade of the marquee for the wedding breakfast and each guest received a favour of local Sidmouth seasalt fudge.

Ellie and James wanted barbecue style wedding catering, so that is exactly what we served. Guests could help themselves to the sharing platters of honey and mustard glazed, local Creedy carver chicken thighs, barbecue marinated belly pork sourced from our local butchers near Exeter, vegetable kebabs with a honey and soy glaze and fresh, local mackerel with ginger and lime, along with minted new potatoes and a selection of homemade salads and condiments.

Following the main course, we poured Prosecco for speeches whilst Ellie and James cut their wedding cake which was made by Ellie’s sister. After the speeches, guests could come up to different stations including a station serving fresh strawberries, raspberries, Devon clotted cream and wedding cake and a tea and coffee station. Guests could also enjoy an ice cream in the sunshine from an ice cream tricycle.

In the evening, whilst the guests danced away to the band, we served a local butcher’s pork hog roast rolls along with homemade sage and onion stuffing, crispy crackling and homemade apple sauce. A platter of Westcountry cheeses, wafers, celery, grapes and our homemade chutney was also served alongside Port for guests to help themselves throughout the evening. Ellie’s brother had been hanging tea lights in the trees lining the water bank the day prior to the wedding, which was certainly worthwhile time spent as they looked stunning in the dark.

Thank you Ellie and James for letting us be a part of your special day and many congratulations once again.
